Six

Me, Joel and Danny planned this trip to Phuket and Bangkok way back in July when Tiger Airways and Air Asia were having offers so mad that it's so hard to resist.. S$145 for SIN-Phuket-Bangkok-SIN!! And that's including taxes (except Bangkok Airport Tax). It's insane!

It's a 3 by 3 seater plane.. Small, no drinks and snacks provided, no blanket or pillow, no entertainment. What can you expect when it's a low budget carrier??

Arrival in Phuket.. We looked a bit stone, because we woke up early to check-in for our flight.

Something happened before our trip.. But God was there to help us!

What happened was that on Tue 20/09, me and Joel realised that he might not be able to leave for the trip due to work commitment. On Wed 21/09, me, Joel, Elisa and Alla worked like mad and we finally managed to get things work out. Halfway through the 'battle', Danny came (office).. He's staying over at Joel's so that the 3 of us will leave for Airport together the next morning.

Leaving office at 2330hrs, we decided to give Yanie a call to follow up with the prank we pulled on her. You see, in the afternoon, Joel msn her about not being able to go for the trip and she don't believe his words until i came in.. Shortly after, we left office for a discussion at Space. She was left stranded.

Me: "Hello? Yanie? This is Jaime. Tomorrow, when you arrived at Meritus Sites, remember to request for twin beds and room next to each other. Anyway, Joel won't be able to go.. But i will still pay for his share."

Yanie: "Huh? Really.... Ok.." (By then, sadness and disappointment filled the conversation)

Me: "Yar.. No choice. Closing the business deal is more important."

Yanie: "Yar.." (Still can sense her disappointment)

Me: "Ok, see you in Bangkok."

After she hung up, me sms her the truth.. She was mad! But still, she's a forgiving babe! Thanks Yanie! :p

22/09 Thu
Arriving in Phuket, we made our way by taxi (A Toyota Camry private car at 550baht approx. S$22, which can be arranged at the taxi counter) to Deevana Patong which is in Patong itself. Room was good and money well-spent! See what i mean?

View from our Room's balcony. It's a new wing..

Check out the private jacuzzi pool! And it only cost us S$48.50 each! And that includes a 3rd bed and breakfast for the 3 of us..

After check-in, we went for lunch and booked some tours; Simon Cabaret Show tonight at 9.30pm and PhiPhi Island Tour with Khai Island tomorrow on 23/09 Fri. All set for Phuket now. Caution: Tours and Airport transfers are cheaper if you buy from the licensed travel agents which you can find them on the streets. Be prepared to pay a steep price if you buy from your hotel's tour desk. Put a deposit for the tours and pay the balance upon picking you up.

Coming Phuket meant alot to us.. For me, i want to see how the locals had been doing after the tsunami. I tried many times to promote Phuket to my friends and most of them rejected me, becuase either they're scared or their parents don't allowed.. Well, i'm glad i make it to Phuket and i loved this place! What about Joel and Danny? Why are they in Phuket? Well... They have a mission here.. That is to bike! You see, when you're in Phuket (or Krabi), renting and riding a bike is a more convenient and cheaper way to see Patong. Rental usually cost 150baht approx. S$7, for 24hours and Gasoline is cheap there. BUT... Riding will be solely at your own risk yar....

Danny was excited about the bikes. He had been looking forward to ride the bike ever since Joel told him how fun and excited it was.
Joel keeping an eye on Danny while riding along Patong streets.. Please ride if only you're confident. And please ride carefully..

Patong Beach... Loved this beach.. Nice big waves, warm waters.

Patong Beach's street.. Alot of shops, bikes and tutks..

Danny and his slippers in Patong...

We went for some seafood dinner near Bangla Road. Park the bikes and had a sumptuous saefood dinner that cost us about 800baht approx. S$32...

This is Bangla Road.. After we finished our dinner, we realised that they closed the road off.

No parking after 6pm.. Remember to check for more details with your hotel or bike rental company.

Our 2 bikes parked at Bangla Road, was fined and chained up!! We gotta make a trip down to the police station to pay the fines and get the bikes unchained.. It looks like we're not the only ignorant ones..

Release Forms!! After paying the fine, the officer radio for assistance to release the bike. Whew....

Luckily, we did not miss the Cabaret show which we booked earlier.. It was fascinating in the beginning. But after the don't-know-how-many-dance-act-later, we kinda got bored.. Me took every single dance act, so go figure how many acts was that.. After the show, they lined outside the theatre for photo taking. Danny took with this she-he, and she-he demanded 100baht from him! CRAZY!.

Danny, Me and Joel made it to the show.. We bought VIP seats and were seated on the 5th row. Lucky we didn't sit on the 1st row.. It's scary!

This was the best! She-he was damn funny and fat!

23/09 Fri
This morning, we rushed for breakfast because we overslept! We woke up 30mins before the pick-up and rushed for breakfast. We gave the coupons, stand at the buffet table and just stack the toasted bread we had! It was embarrassing! The waiter even 'showed' us the tables... Before we can even touched our sandwich, we had to make a run for the pick-up. All of them were waiting for us.

I haven't send the underwater camera for development yet.. When it's ready, it will be uploaded at my Multiply site. So keep a lookout!

Back to the topic. PhiPhi Island and its surrounding islands were badly affected by the tsunami. The once-used-to-be clear waters had turned murky.. Maya Bay had lost most of its vegetations and its 'Maya Bay' sign board. PhiPhi Don Island had changed its prime location to the back where it used to house the Ferries.. Everything had changed there. Maybe the only thing not affected was the monkeys at Monkey Bay!

Then we came Khai Island also known as Egg Island.. It's a very small island with not much facilities but it has the best beach we've been to! It has soft white sand, the sunbeds and the atmosphere of Waikiki Beach! The 3 of us rented the sunbeds and slept in it.. With the sun shining down on our umbrella and the ocean breeze blowing our face, it was pure enjoyment to dreamland! By the end of the day, Danny was burnt.. His protection was a mere SPF2... Ouch!!

By the time we reached Deevana, we were tired and hungry. We went to book our Hotel-Airport transfer for tomorrow and had seafood dinner again! It's those set-up stalls along the road side.. It's better.. Price? Slightly cheaper than the one we had at Bangla Road.

It's very brightly lit when all the stalls are all set up.. You can't missed it if you're travelling along the road..

24/09 Sat
Left Phuket for Bangkok this morning.. Met up with Gavin, Yanie and Theresa at Meritus Suites.

Arriving at Meritus Suites.. Catching up with each other.

Joel, Gavin, Danny and Yanie at Meritus Suites after collecting the rooms keys. All 6 of us were excited about staying here.

And once again, it was money well spent!

This is Meritus Suites' 1 bedroom suite.. We booked at US$69 for 2 in a room. Requested for twin bed room, but due they do not have anymore twin, they gave us an exxtra bed for no charge!

And this their bedroom.. Super king size bed! Superb!

After lunch, we took a train to Siam BTS station for MBK and Siam Square. For a start, we went MBK. Yanie and Theresa immediately sprung into action. Me, Joel, Gavin and Danny took a slow walk instead. And after a few hours of shopping, all 6 of us met for dinner at this cheap teppanyaki restaurant in MBK.. It's cheap.. A new zealand beef steak set 175baht, a tenderloin steak set 135baht, a prawn set 135baht! We didn't take much pictures at MBK because it's our 1st day in Bangkok and we were a bit disoriented...

Me, Joel, Gavin, Yanie and Theresa.. Danny sat opposite us and took a picture for us..

This is where we had our teppanyaki dinner in MBK.. It's located at the Food Court level..

After dinner, we went Suan Lum Night Bazaar. That's where we all started the shopping... Bargain, bargain and bargain. Me and Joel didn't buy much because we know what we want to buy and where we will buy.. Both of us were saving energy and $$ for tomorrow! We ended here late. Back at hotel, we had a drinking session. Joel, Danny, Gavin, Yanie and Theresa played Consume.. In the end? Gavin and Danny was high on Vodka.. Me? Laughing away with their nonsense rules and gestures!

25/09 Sun
We were supposed to wake up early for Chatuchak.. By the time we reached, it was almost 2pm.. Once again, Yanie and Theresa went off on their shopping.. Me, Joel, Danny and Gavin went on ours as well.. We bargained for everything we layed eyes on. If the merchant can't match our price, we walked away. If the merchant attitude suck, we also walked away.. It took us about 4 merchants before we finally found this Thai Chinese auntie who gave us a good deal for the fishermen pants at 90baht each! And we bought 8! After a while, me and Joel showed Danny and Gavin a cool place to chill. It's a bar outof nowhere in Chatuchak.

Chilling at Chatuchak.. With a cold drink in your hand, music to your ears and crowds walking around? It's pure enjoyment..

Me and Joel taking a break..

After Chatuchak, me, Joel, Gavin adn Danny went Silom's Sala Daeng area. Me went to buy my Converse shoes.. For ankle high cut sneaker, it only cost me 900baht! Cheap.. Then we went to a 'clean' massage centre for thai massage. We went for 2hours and it only cost us 400baht each.. Cheap again!

Went back to Meritus to meet up with Yanie and Theresa who stayed at Chatuchak till 7.30pm. Bathed and changed, we went hunting for a seafood restuarant. It was 10pm and we were brought to this seafood restuarant that charges 1500baht for a KG of crab!! WTF?! It's more expensive than SIN man... No way! After checking out the 2nd restuarant, we gave up.. Hungry and tired, we went to Patpong and ate Mac instead.. After dinner, we walked around Patpong. Yanie, Theresa and Gavin wanted to experience the 'tiger show' therefore we all hopped in and had a look. The 1st pub we went in, i felt really uncomfortable.. For some reason, it freaked me out.. Me and Joel left shortly after they decided to settle on a particular pub.

26/09 Mon
Today, all of us will leave Bangkok for SIN. Me, Joel, Danny and Gavin were booked on the 1145am flight, Yanie and Theresa at 7pm.

Overall... It had been fun.. We stayed at good hotels, eat alot and shop alot. Everyone's happy!
